Christmas Dinner

I know this menu is nothing special -

but it was the VERY FIRST time I've EVER cooked:

  1. A Turkey (OK, it was just a turkey breast, but still!)
  2. Mashed Potatoes from scratch
  3. Deviled Eggs
  4. Pumpkin Pie

I've been fortunate enough to always be near all my family where either my mother or my hubby's parent's would make our holiday meals.  Now that we have moved away from them, I had to see if I could do it - and I did!!

I HATE to cook, and I figured out why - it's too much paper work!!

Let me explain.  In order for me to get everything done at the same time, I had to read and re-read every recipe to see the time scope.  Then I made a spread sheet and calculated when I needed to start each dish and what preparations could be done before hand.   Whew!

Oh, and this is what we had for breakfast.

  6. Everything looks so yummy, good for you!

And remember, if everything is not done at the same time, you can always warm things up in the microwave and no one will be the wiser! :)

  7. Way to go, looks yummy. I think the hardest part is to get it all done at the same time too!! ( but that is why we now have microwaves)!

  8. I know it's so hard to be away from family during the holiday's. You did a great job on cooking for your family. I still won't make pie crust from scratch, even after all these years.

  10. You are right! Cooking IS alot of work! Today is the 28th and I JUST finished the last of Christmas dishes...the pots I had to soak! I could never figure out how to get everything done at the same time. My mom never made homemade mashed potatoes. I JUST found a ricer last year..and that is what I put my cooked potatoes thru. VOILA! no lumps..and when they are done, I plop them in the crock pot. That way the messy potato dishes are done and put away EARLY. I just LOVE that crockpot! Great job on a lovely dinner!

  11. Good for you, Mel! I cooked my first turkey (breast) this year too because my sister (who usually cooks it) was out of town. It was a lot less scary than I thought it would be. Your food all looks delicious!

  12. Mel, Congratulations on your Christmas meal. How clever of you to time it the way you did. Everything looks delicious. Here in Australia I cooked baked potato/sweet potato/pumpkin/onion; beans, pork, chicken, ham and we sat down to a roast on a hot day. Next year we are having cold seafood (prawns, oysters, etc) and salad.

  20. How can one trade forex in a manner that least resembles gambling-- over what period of time can one see some logic to a forex trade? Who are the main players that govern the price levels of currency and what effects do individual traders have? how do hedge funds trade currencies? Does technical analysis really work? The idea of of using tech analysis seems so silly--what is the theory behind it? Any additional information you may have, I'd really appreciate.
