Oh, no - I'm getting old!

Be Aware, Be Thankful
1. Cheap thrills
2. Grandparents (I know I've said it before!)
3. Fresh flowers
* * *
Here it is a night on a weekend and I was getting things ready for an exciting evening consisting of getting my Albertson's Monopoly pieces and adhering them to the sheet while watching The Remains of the Day.

Another aging sign is this adorable calendar that I got because it reminds me of my grandmother.

Like so many who lived during the 1930's depression, my grandmother Park was a very frugal woman.  One of the ways she saved money was to reuse calendars from year to year.  This was achieved by taping hand written alterations to the month's titles and the year.

We would all laugh about it as it continued inevitably throughout the years.

And isn't it funny - the things that were so funny then make the most endearing memories now?  Grandma Park gave us {LOTS} of material to snicker about.  And because of the quirks, I 'see' and remember Grandma on a daily basis - thanks Grandma!

I've got more wonderful memories to share about Grandma Park and I'll get to those in the coming months.

  2. I guess when we are young we don't see the wisdom of those who are wise. So many had gone through very hard times, and knew how to stretch a dollar and still enjoy life :-)

  5. I love it when something reminds me of my grandma. I loved her so much. She taught me my love of embroidery and hand work.

  6. My grandmother recycled her calendars by cutting them into recipe card size and writing her recipes on them. One of her recipes I have calls for $.10 worth if marshmallows. It had to have been written in the '40s.
