Sew Sweet's block for the "Around the Town" theme was a school house. We had kits for our block as shown below as well as fabric kits and instruction to make the large quilt with all the blocks as we did.
We gave our pattern out rolled up and tied with a ribbon like a diploma. We had yummy apples and I had gathered teacher appreciation ideas for a handout.
We made kits for the individual block as shown above and kits to make the large quilt, below.

Inevitably, I ran out of time to do all that I wanted with the quilt. My intention was to embroider the names of the buildings on each one so they were identifiable and to add small quilts to most of the buildings, like an out door quilt show.
Here are some close ups of the blocks.

Here are a couple shots of the shop.
This is one of the quilts in our shop that I thought was amazing.
Kim has more pictures of this year's Shop Hop at her place, Bitty Bits & Pieces. She wasn't able to make it to our shop, or the one in Logan, but all the other quilt shops are featured on her blog. Kim is also having a giveaway with the Shop Hop theme so make sure you sign up there too!
Don't forget about my GIVEAWAY, this Sunday!
I think you quilt looks fantastic, not sure how you fit it all in .

What a great shop-hop....and love the quilts you showed here today!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks for the shop hop were fantastic! I have never cared for the blocks that our local shop hops produce. Guess living in FL they think we all like wild/funky/bright patterns. I would love to see something along the traditional lines.
ReplyDeleteI love your shop hop quilt. The buildings are wonderful. The colors are beautiful. And I especially like the 3-D HST setting - sashings.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt...and that Bom quilt is spectacular too!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt...It is so pretty!

Mel...I love the schoolhouse! And of course, I love all of the quilt squares. The theme of your shop hop is so fun! Would it be possible to get a copy of the schoolhouse block pattern from you? I would love it! Let me know!
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to get copies of the patterns of the stores people were unable to make it too? I know I would love them, but I didn't think all the stores would love my 5 yr old son. So I only hit my local ones when grandma had a few hours.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt! I love the idea of around the town, and your design with the half square triangles. Really, Really nice!
ReplyDeleteI didn't connect that you worked at Sew Sweet until now. I sometimes miss things. I loved seeing pictures of the store and I'm sorry I missed getting out there this year. I hope it was a success for you. Do you own the quilt shop?
ReplyDeleteHello! I found your blog b/c of the quilting, but I see you want to Mod Podge something - come by my blog and check it out if you need some ideas!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your blog -
Cheers!
Amy

ReplyDeleteThat quilt is amazing! At one point you said "I ran out of time" ...Did you make it? I love all the little shops :) My favorites would probably be the cinema and the bridal shop! I've always wanted a bridal shop :) I'm enjoying quilting now! I loved the bolts of fabric in the window of the Sew Sweet's Shop block, Great Job!
