This is a great site to waste time looking at awkward family pictures. You thought yours were bad? Wait till you see these! There are awkward family stories too. I was lead to the site by Vanessa from V and Co.

Long May She Wave

Here's a tutorial just in time for America's Independence Day!
You can create two waving flags with one fat quarter of each print.
Lay your blue piece in the upper left hand corner of your red stripe piece.
Pin in place. Do NOT use a fusible webbing, it will make the next steps harder.
With a zig-zag stitch go around the right and bottom edge of the blue print.
Flip your project over and cut out the red stripe fabric from the corner you added your blue.  I cut leaving about 1/4".
Press your 'flag'.
Lay your flag on your cutting board, and cut strips vertically anywhere from 2" to 1" strips.
I cut 2", 1 3/4", 1", 1 1/2" etc.  Don't cut less than 1 1/2" from the left or right side.
With 1/4" seam allowance, sew your cut strips back together.
Press seam toward larger strip.
Trim along the wavy top and bottom to clean up the edges.
Applique onto a background of your choice.  You can make this into a pillow cover, wall hanging, table runner etc, etc!
