Tour the Cottages

Let's start things off with a tour of the cottages! Recap: This block pattern is on Freda's Hive as a tutorial. There is a group of us who Nannette arranged to swap these Cottage blocks on her blog. This collection is my set of Cottages I'm sending into the swap. Blue Bliss Boulevard Get your jacket as we stroll the walks of these three cottages! Large wreaths, a purchase to support the local boy scout troop, hang from the windows of two of these dwellings. The snow has yet to be cleared from this cottage. The owners must be enjoying an extra cup of hot cocoa before bundling up and grabbing the snow shovel! Town Twin Cottages For the folks who like to be close to the town activities, this set of twin cottages is perfect! Simplicity is key to the lives of those who make these cottages home! Residents enjoy a short walk to the local market and independent book store. On the Corner of Merry and Bright As we make our way down this cheery row, you can't help but to have your spirits lifted by peeking into the windows of these colorful cottages! Max and Lolly are practicing an act they will perform for the 4th Annual Christmas Circus, a benefit for the Young in Mind Retirement Home. Roommates, Corky and Stretch are experimenting with some new special effects involving helium. Looks like Stretch is retrieving one of their projects now! Never the one to sit idle, Morty practices his unicycle act morning, noon, and night! Main Street You've heard about it, Main Street is taking a licking and we're forced to sell! The residents of these beautiful, if not charming cottages must get out while the gettin's good! It's too bad, these brand new cottages were just decorated by a high end decorator and now it all must go. Some how the investment savvy owners of this cottage were not affected by the market and are decorating for the holidays by hanging lovely evergreen swags in the windows. The Art Community Cottages in this upscale neighborhood are in high demand! Artists who 'have made it' clamber to settle in this eclectic neighborhood. Residents here tend to be a bit elusive, but when it comes to fundraising for the Arts in the School Program, they are first to volunteer! If you are willing to shell out $500 a plate, you can enjoy an evening of poetry reading, fine food and a silent auction for the Arts in the School Program hosted right here in one of these snazzy cottages! This last cottage on our tour is a special one to me. It is my cottage in the woods. It is located on a mountain surrounded by tall conifers and has a pond that is ideal for ice skating in the winter! Inside you can find me cozied up to the fire with a quilt over my lap as I do some handwork. My husband and son are putting a puzzle together on the floor. Later we are going to make popcorn to string on the tree. Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the tour of these fun cottages, I had a wonderful time constructing and decorating them for you!

In modern usage, a cottage is a dwelling, typically in a rural, or semi-rural location. In the United Kingdom, the term cottage tends to denote a rurally- located one and a half storey property, where on the second one has to walk into the eaves in order to look through the windows, which are generally located in dormers. This sometimes means that the eave timbers intrude into the actual living space, and quite often, especially in recent renovations, the relevant timbers can be exposed enhancing the cottage experience. However, in most other settings, the term "cottage" denotes a small, often cozy dwelling, and small size is integral to the description, but in other places such as Canada, the term exists with no connotation of size at all.

oh, you clever girl, you!! The cottage tour is just so fun. They are really sweet. I love the idea of adding snow and think I will have to do that to some of mine. Here in MN we get plenty of it every winter so Christmas cottages without snow would not seem right.

Oh Melissa, how darling the cottages are. The personality you've given them is like breathing life into the cottages to make them homes. I know I'm feeling a little sappy saying that but it is so true. It is so amazing to see what everyone has done with their cottages. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see an idea go from that to all these beautiful little unique homes! It is so precious. I love the snow, the for sale signs even, the windows that look like panes of glass, the cute whimisical people inside and the wreathes. The fabric of your cottages and your trim are all soooo incredibly cute. And the little documentary about the neighborhood so sweet - even those that are having a hard time. You've done such a wonderful job. I can't believe all this. Congrats! This open house is a total success!!!! It makes me want to buy one of your for sale cottages. Just lovely Melissa. I'm very proud. I'm so glad you joined our exchange.

Just thought I'd comment on the books you plan to read. I just finished Animal Farm again this summer. I had forgotten how good it is. The last time I read it was about 22 years ago, the age my son is who read it with me. The first time I read it I wasn't into politics at all and really didn't get it, it was just a good story, this time was different. With Stephen (my son) reading it at the same time, and him really into politics, I got a lot more out of it. I would recommend that everyone read this book and think how it applies today. It is also avalible on tape or cd. enjoy!
