On the Go Studio

1. I love to sew
2. I love road trips
3. I love to combine the two!

This is how my 'studio' is set up in our VW.

My mother-in-law gave me this amazing traveling iron that is comprised of two pieces, the flat plate and the handle.  The two can be separated and the iron slides into the handle to store flat.

I love the Omnigrid  Folda-away Cutting and Pressing board.  One side (shown) is an ironing surface and the other is a gridded cutting mat.  I use this very board daily too; it sits right next to my sewing machine so I can square as I go.  This is the 18 X 24 size.

Right under the table is an electrical outlet where I can plug in my iron and sewing machine.  YES I iron and sew as hubby drives!  {I know it's not the safest environment, but it's a risk I'm willing to take!}

Since it's in the picture, I'd like to make an unsolicited plug for Best Press Spray Starch.  I use this as I'm ironing out my fabric before cutting it for a project.  It isn't heavy or gooey and makes working with high quality fabric {and others} even easier!

Here is my notions area.  Karen, came up with this handy way of keeping everything handy.

I'm working on a project (or four) that have appliquĆ©.  This is how Karen suggested keeping threads all in one place -BRILLIANT! I decoupaged mine.

Great organizational tips. thanks! You can use your machine as your husband drives? We used to have a motor home and everything slid from side to side or back and forth as he braked. Hand work was all I could handle. good for you for being so creative!

GREAT thread necklace and I'd keep little girls' hair scrunchies (the teeny ones) around each bobbin so the thread ends would stay in place! Love how you have a traveling sewing room BUT do worry about you sitting "loose" in the van while it's being driven along the roads!

Some great ideas! We're getting ready to go on a permanent road trip (selling the house, moving into our fifth wheel, going wherever God takes us) and since I'm taking my quilting, I need all the advice and tips I can get! Thanks for sharing. Denise :)

When you are in small spaces you really have to come up with some new ways to do things. Great ideas.

Perfect quilting on the go. I could get used to a set-up like that.
