It’s now been EIGHT months since Lissa went into ICU. A couple of weeks ago, just after her birthday, she was able to be moved to a recovery center.
She was in various stages of emergency care for 7 months, beginning early in December of 2009. To read her long journey, visit this post.
For Lissa’s birthday a very kind friend of ours gave us a lap top to give to Lissa so she could, once again, be in touch with the outside world. Lissa enjoys keeping up with family and friends via Facebook and emails when she feels well enough.
The family was able to throw Lissa a birthday party outdoors at the hospital. The following is a portion of our mother-in-law’s account of the party:
“The best part was when we gave her a bottle of Pepsi. Her eyes lit up and she immediately tried to open it. She was allowed to have a few sips and did so well that the nurse gave her a cup with ice and poured some more in the cup with a straw so Lissa could really enjoy it.”
At the recovery center Lissa is now able to sit herself up on the edge of her bed and stand!! She can sit in a wheel chair and feed herself real food!! It’s amazing what we take for granted!
The other evening I was startled to see she was online and was able to chat/text with her for a bit – what a miracle this has all been!
Once again, I am soooo thankful for all your prayers and thoughts. Hope is such a wonderful gift, and we have received much.
