Nebraska Shop Hop {Last 4}

This next shop, Heavenly Treasures in Pawnee City is in an old church in which the owner used to attend services while she was growing up.  It's simply a wondrous place to visit AND it has a bountiful supply of quilting fabrics.


What could be more charming?  How 'bout passing a friendly Amish couple in a buggy on the way into town.  That's right - Pawnee City is home to an Amish colony.




Cosmic Cow, in Lincoln,  is a unique shop minutes away from where Michelle lives - lucky girl!  


Lots of fun modern prints. The bathroom was done all in pink - I think I took more pictures in there than anywhere else!  The staff here was particularly friendly and helpful.


Do you see the pink tree in the bottom right?  It is ONE of a large array of all things pink in their bathroom!


The Quilted Kitty in Lincoln is a delightful shop set up in a cozy home.  Immediately following the Shop Hop, they will be moving into a new place! 


From the pics on their blog, it looks like the shop will be more open.
They of course, have lots of kitty prints for feline lovers!


This last quilt shop I went to by myself on the way back to Colorado.


I was excited to visit Prairie Point Junction in Cozad because I have been receiving emails from them for some time. Again - very nice shop and friendly quilters were found!

Nebraska Shop Hop {4 MORE Shops}

The Quilt Basket in York was the shop (we think) that best got into the Shop Hop event.  They had a large map of Nebraska with flags at all the towns in which there was a participating quilt shop.
One half of the shop was dedicated to quilts from past Shop Hops.  It was fun to see the different patterns and fabrics in each quilt.

Common Threads in Syracuse, was packed with charm.  In fact, Michelle and I found the whole town of Syracuse to be very enticing and left more money in that area than any other!


This particular quilt shop is located in an old bank.  The space still has the heavy metal vault door and an ornately painted safe, both original pieces.



If you are looking for batiks, The Fabric Fairie in Auburn is THE shop!  Tons of samples made up in the artistic prints and more patterns and books than you'll know what to do with!  VERY inspiring!




We were lucky to get 2 shops in Auburn!  Needles I was east (?) of Fabric Fairie, about 5 minutes.  What a change from the average 1 hour that was between most shops!!


I loved how these guys stuck to the theme of the hop "Cooking Up Great Quilts" by putting their kits in large wooden salad bowls with tongs.  So cute!!

{FiVE} Shops in Nebraska

Wagner's Quilts and Conversations in Arapahoe was a nice airy, well lit shop with an adorable Mary Englebreit display as well as many other appealing displays.


You might not be able to tell from the picture, but the upper left picture has a pair of shoes that are used as planters for some succulent plants.



To simply state that the Quilter's Delight in Holdrege would be an extreme understatement!  I spent my time sorting through the buttons and left with a bunch!


I love the quilt that Quilter's Cottage in Kearney made with this year's Shop Hop fabric line.  Big, easy blocks that let the prints play!




OK, I've tried to be somewhat impartial while reporting the shops to you, will you forgive me if I have a favorite?  The Material Girl in Grand Island is amazing!  It's set up like a high end fashion boutique. 


And if you love Kaffe Fassett, they've probably got every fabric and book he's come up with and lots of samples made up!!


If you're in the area, ya gots ta go to The Material Girl - it's even worth a special trip!




The Calico Cottage in Hastings was a great shop in and of itself, but it also had beads, scrapbook, and yarn!  You could spend your whole vacation right in this shop!

Nebraska Shop Hop {4 Shops}

The first shop we hit on our Nebraska Shop Hop was Silver Thimble in Ogallala.  The ladies were very nice and we loved the precut fabrics!



How nice!!  Michelle's bag had green straps and mine had blue.  I LOVE this line from MoMo, Wonderland.


I am sooooo impressed with her skills!  I tried to get her into quilting when we lived in Utah for over a decade, but NO!  She had to 'discover' quilting 3 months before she moved away!


Now she's whipping up quilts, bags, runners - all with out me!  Guess I was a good teacher!




The second shop we drove to was The Quilt Rack in North Platte.  It was a large shop with lots and lots of precut fabrics - charm packs, jelly rolls, layer cakes, etc.  It was set up with lots of charm!  


They had everything from batiks, wool, flannel, Christmas and other holiday fabrics, a long arm quilting machine and even provided refreshments for shop hoppers!  The lady working (the owner I think) was as nice as could be - very helpful to us and the other shoppers. 
Sew Little Time in McCook was a small but nicely set up shop.  The ladies there were very welcoming and offered bottled water and cookies.  They had a free pattern for an insulated iron tote that was darling!!
Michelle and I were quick fans of the next quilt shop, simply from the drive into the charming town, Cambridge.  "I could live here!" I said.  A nice, quaint place. 


Then we found the adorable house that was the quilt shop.  A hand painted wooden sign announced that we had found Cottage Inspirations.


Not only could I live in Cambridge, but I could live in this house!  The rooms were packed with cozy projects, fabrics and accessories.

The "Chelle and Mel's Nebraska Shop Hop 2010 Story"

OK, this story is already going the rounds in the family so I'm posting it here before rumors get out.


The short story:
  • Michelle (Chelle) had taken the bus from Lincoln (about a 6 hour ride) to Ogallala, Nebraska and I drove from Denver, Colorado to Ogallala to meet her - about a 4 hour drive for me.
  • We ran out of gas
  • I got in the patrol car (without handcuffs)
  • We bought lots of fabric
  • We laughed and laughed and laughed and . . .
