My Surroundings

Be Aware, Be Thankful
1. Closeness of grocery stores
2. Skype
3. Family
* * * *
These are some wonderful boxes that were my maternal grandmother's.  I love them and have them out on my  sewing cabinet where I can see them daily.  They are great storage containers for my trimmings and ribbons.

Grandma Park and I share the same birthday, December 7th.  We always celebrated it together with a family dinner.  The first birthday I celebrated by myself, after Grandma passed away seemed odd.

Our birthdays weren't the only thing we shared, as it turns out.  I'd like to think that my love of quilting, gardening and playing cards came from Grandma.

She made some spectacular quilts that I need to take pictures of and post here.  She also helped hand quilt my wedding quilt.

Grandma had a very well kept flower garden and loved to be outside weeding and trimming.

I didn't find out how similar our interests were until after she had passed away.  I wish I had had more time to share our interests.

Grandma's daily use cup and saucer are pictured below with other favored trinkets.

Here are how some of my other cubbies look.  I love to keep things around that make me laugh, remind me of new and old friends, inspire or comfort me.

Such very special keepsakes. I have a few treasures from my grandparents that I like to look at too. Aren't the memories wonderful.

Dear Mel, How special... I have been thinking about my grandmothers as well, :), and how much they would enjoy what I do now and my possibilities. I feel their love and feel them smiling down...
Thanks for sharing!

Like you, I didn't realize how many interests I shared with my grandma until after she had passed. It's bittersweet to ponder; she was precious.

As for the Skype: LOL! My son texted me from the hospital this morning and asked me to bring the laptop when I head that way, so they can Skype with family, after the baby is born! Yay for Skype! :)

What a wonderful heritage. We are connected to our family in so many ways, even when they are gone. Lovely tribute to a special lady.

It is wonderful that you still have some of your grandmother's items. They always tend to make us feel closer to those we love.

I'm glad you have some of your grandmother's things. We had "problems" in our family and I have nothing from my grandmothers OR from my mother, either. It is very sad, actually. None of them shared the interests I have but I did have a great-grandmother who did beautiful painting on china teacups and saucers and I so wish I had been given one of them.
