Today I finished up the top of a Valentine's runner kit I received last year from Tina, my secret sister at the time.
I'm going to hand quilt it.
Don't you love 2fers?
This runner provided some little patchwork hearts for a second project. Do you see how I cut out the fabric after I had hand appliqued around the red hearts?
Don't know how I'll use the little cuties yet. Perhaps I'll sew two together and stuff them for an ornament or gift topper. I could sew one to the front of a card for a sweet note. I could applique them to another pieced background and make a pillow cover. Possibilities are endless!

Christmas a month late
Mom and Dad finally got the package we sent them for Christmas! Gifts are fun anytime I guess! They loved what we packed and didn't seem to mind that it was a month late.
The snowman quilt was from a BOM set I have. I love the colors and Mom has it hanging up even though it is summer in Argentina right now.
I love how this runner turned out. I made it with a Portabello charm pack. It was inspired by Sherri's free tutorial I found here.
I asked my friend Marta if she would quilt it for me because I wanted a pretty feathery pattern and I can't do that. I love how it turned out!!

I just love cozy fall colors and the pattern of the runner is a delightful design!

A Fall Swap
I belong to a Yahoo group that focuses on table runners. The group is having a two part swap for fall. The first part is that we send 9 fat quarters to our assigned partner. The second part is that our partner makes a runner or table topper from the FQs we sent, then sends it back.
I was excited to participate in this unique swap! The picture above are the fat quarters that my partner Diane sent to me. I really love the fabrics, so it will be fun to create something with them!
Diane also included a couple of treats for me! A nice pattern for a runner and a beautiful needle case.

30-something
This is a table runner I made from 5" charms. I thought I was being so creative by naming the project 30-something since that is my age, the charms are 30's reproductions and it took 30-something charms to create the runner. Or does it??
After giving this pattern to all those who helped with the autism fundraiser event my sister in law points out, "Yes it's clever and cute, but it takes more than 30-something squares to create!"
What? Let's see, 6 rows of 7 is thirty . . . NO, FORTY two!!
So, I guess I have to rename the pattern or use less triangles per row! Oh well, I still like how it turned out.

Oh, and this was my first time trying a scalloped border so it didn't turn out exactly as planned, but I'm happy with it anyway!

Yikes!
It's been a whole week since I've posted!!
Yes I've been busy sewing! I'm working on at least 4 table runners at the moment, two to have on hand and two as swaps. One of the projects for me is the FREE shamrock table topper by Kim that I mentioned on this post. I'm making the large size and almost have the top done, just in time for St. Paddy's Day!
I've also been needle turning by hand some applique flowers on a runner for my Easter Runner Swap partner, Carmen in Georgia.
I made a mini hexie stuffed flower and forgot to take a picture before sending it off! (Darn!)
I'm making some fun book marks that I need to take photos of. I will have a tutorial AND am going to try to sell some as a fundraiser for Autism. My nephew Brock is autistic and we are trying to raise money for further research. See the top button on the right hand side of my blog. More on that later.
Urban and I spent two, yes two hours at D.I. last night (a thrift type shop). I purchased several wool clothing items that I'm going to felt for projects, some items I'm going to recycle into mixed media art, and some games. Urban, Nathan and I have played a 3 year old version of Monopoly several times within the last 24 hours! It's fun, but the rules keep changing!
My parents landed safely on Argentina land early this morning which was a great relief to me, you would think I was the parent, I almost called their mission president to see if they arrived ok!
Tomorrow I work at the quilt shop then Urban and I are going to a live performance of Thomas the Tank Engine! Highlight of the week!
Sorry this post doesn't have pictures, I'll throw in another random one from my files.
OK, this is somewhere in Oregon last year. We took a couple of weeks and drove the west coast beginning at the top of Oregon (Hwy 101) and ending in San Francisco. (Hwy 1) Then we cut over to Tahoe then back up home.
It was GREAT!

Friday was Fun!
Hope you all had a great weekend!
It started with lunch with some friends to celebrate a birthday. Two hours of chatting, laughing and eating!!!
Then Urban and Mekhi (my sister's son who is also 3) and I went into Bountiful to meet Nathan for dinner. We had some time before Nathan got off of work so we went to Quilter's Haven in Bountiful. I wanted to get some fabric to match some table runners I am making. I also wanted to pick up some wool add to my BOM from Bunny Hill Designs.
Well, I guess I found a few more items! They had some charm packs for 30% and 50% off - how could I resist?? And, since I'm 'into' table runners this year, I found some books and patterns with some great designs! I picked up some 'Americana' blue FQ's for my yo-yo project. Some small pieces of lovely wool, some FQ's for absolutly no reason and some fun birdie fabrics! The pinks are the fabs I selected for my runners, but now that I have them home, I'm not sure they will work. They will be loved though, don't worry!

February's Table Runner is DONE!
Just under the wire! I got the binding done this afternoon!
This picture doesn't do the cheery fabrics justice!! The colors are so playful!
To meet my personal goal of making one table runner per month AND to participate in my Table Runner of the Month group AND to Make One Gift a Month, I made this simple runner out of a Mary Englebreit charm pack (A Recipe for Friendship) my friend Jane sent to me as a treat with a fabric order I made a while ago!
I quilted it very simply on my home machine with a walking foot.
I love it so much, I ordered three more charm packs from Jane's shop so I can make a few more for gifts and one for ME!!!

A Little Quilt Show
One of my 2009 goals is to make at least 1 table runner or wall hanging per month.
This is my January project, it's a small wall hanging from the book Bits and Pieces. I used a fabric line by Buggy Barn.
This quilt was outside of my comfort zone in that it contained hearts. Yea, lots of them! I am not a mushy, lovey type of person, but I like the more primitive style of the hearts (elongated).
I hand appliqued the hearts then hand quilted the piece. I got it soaking wet and let it air dry to achieve the wrinkled look. I'm happy with the results.
Yesterday I worked at the shop (Sew Sweet). I took some pictures of original quilts they have designed for your viewing pleasure.
This was last year's (2008) Shop Hop Quilt. The theme for the hop was "Once Upon a Time". Sew Sweet chose Goose Girl. It's a young adult fantasy novel by a Utah author Shannon Hale. The story is based on a Brother's Grimm tale by the same name.
I tell you, the picture does not do it justice! There are three-dimensional elements in the quilt (for which Sew Sweet is known for). The little flower buds that surround the outer border are 3-D, as are the 'pinwheels'. The 'picots' have a small yellow piping trimming the 3-D triangles. Lakehouse fabrics were used.
This quilt is a companion piece to the Goose Girl quilt and is done in the popular pink and light greens. It is a throw size. The 'geese' are three-dimentional, the quilt is made mostly with Lakehouse fabrics.

Little Projects
Here's a couple of little projects.
I made this table runner for my mom-in-law for Christmas this year. The original pattern didn't have any borders, but my MIL has a large oak table (not pictured) so I thought the runner needed some more substance. I like how the two borders look, I'm pleased with the whole project. I quilted it on my sewing machine very simply.
The Daisey wall hanging is from a magazine from a few years back. I had made a few of them, one for my mom, mom-in-law, a good friend and one for me! I hand quilted them.
NOTE: Pat Sloan recognized the darling wall hanging as HER design that was in Americal Patchwork and Quilting magazine! Thanks Pat!
Hey, the two look great together don't they? Maybe I'll keep the table runner for myself! ;)
