Happy St. Patrick's!

Be Aware, Be Thankful
(Urban's list)

1.  Playing with Daddy
2.  Costumes
3.  Red chips (Doritos)
* * * *

This is a quilt I made last year.  I love it!

I've posted it before, but since it's nearly St. Patrick's day, I knew you wouldn't mind seeing it again!

The tutorial is at Kim's Big Quilting Adventure.  There are two sizes, I made the larger one this time, but I know I'll be making more - for gifts!

What I'm doing today

Be Aware, Be Thankful
1. Sew days
2. Retreats
3. Diet Coke
4. Running water

Virginia of Galloping Pony Studio is hostessing a retreat TODAY!

I'm so excited to participate in a retreat, even if it's via the Internet.  It's just fun sewing as a group and checking in on each other!

I love her miniatures and mixed media work.  I saw her for the first time in Portland at a Quilt Expo this past summer.  Since then I've seen her work in some of my favorite magazines.  Check out her FREEBIE!

Florabunda and Lissa Update

Be Aware, Be Thankful

1. Bloggers who share
2. New friends in Colorado
3. Dr.s & nurses
4. Sun rays

I was wandering around and while visiting Annette's I saw this wonderful FREE BOM!!

It's called Florabunda and it is designed by Erin Russek.

Since I've been missing in action, I'm most likely the last to know on this one, but I had to post about it in case there are others out there that barely have their head above water!

If you are new to appliqué, Erin has tons of appliqué help at her place with lots of detailed pics!

Update on Lissa:
(more info)

Thank you so much for the inquiries, thoughts and prayers for Lissa.
She is on the road to recovery!!!!

She can breathe on her own for 4 hours now!!

She still has the trache and hasn't been able to keep oral nutrients down. She is not able to speak due to the tubes inserted in her throat, but does her best to communicate.

She still has an open incision from her sternum to pelvic bone so they can 'clean' her out daily as she has a rare infection and seepage.

She doesn't have to be hooked up to the dialysis machine full time now, just a few times a week.  Her kidneys may begin to work in time, but nothing so far.

Since Lissa is more awake now, she is becoming increasingly depressed.  There are no answers for her questions and no end to her boredom.  Most heartbreaking for her is the fact that she has not seen her boys for almost 2 months.  Her three boys are her life.  It's hard to see our care free, always happy Lissa in such emotional and physical pain.

Today:
Lissa went in for a scheduled clean out surgery and the Dr. could see blood filling up her abdomen cavity. The artery to her spleen had burst about the same time they got her dressing off.

The vascular surgery team was with her nearly 5 hours. They had to go in through her femoral artery and block off the aorta to stop the flow of blood to make the repairs. They sewed a piece of vein to the artery to make a patch. They had to remove her spleen. She has had 40 units of blood during this surgery.

{She is celebrating her one year blog anniversary too! Go sign up to win her georgous mini trapunto quilt!}

Blogiversary - Remember the Cottages?

This really is the event that started it all for me.
In September of 2008, Nanette of Freda's Hive posted a tutorial on how to make a darling cottage block.
That lead to her hosting a Cottage Swap and that inspired me to have a Cottage Warming Party complete with cottage tours, games, refreshments and goodie bags.
Go back and re-live the fun or see it for the first time, great friendships were made!
This post's giveaway:
WINNER: Dotti
Items can be purchased at www.sewsweetquilts.net

Have you seen Robyn's GREAT bag pattern in the latest issue of Down Under Quilts? To call it a 'bag' is so mundane, it's a wonderful ACceSSoRy that is also very useful! I love the front pocket!

Blogiversary!!!

Why I started blogging
by Mel
I had a couple of family members that would blog about their families so they could share with friends and family that lived away. Great idea, but all my family and friends live in the same town I live in.
Then I had a close sister-in-law announce that they were moving several states away and my parents accepted a church mission call to Argentina. YAY! Now I had a reason to begin a blog! (Yes, of course I would rather them stay in town!)
So my little family blog began. Pretty soon I was posting more about my passions (quilting, diet coke, etc.) and great online finds than about my family so I though I would get my own place and keep my family blog just for family info.
Thus Mel's Own Place came to be.
WOW! Who knew that in just ONE YEAR I would find such great friends from all over the world, inspiration everywhere, and creative sharing from all over! Many swaps, giveaways, wins, challenges, quilt-alongs, tutorials, and photo groups later I'm still surprised as ever at the generosity and friendship my little computer has found for me!
tHaNK yOU!!
I'm not sure what the next couple of days will bring as far as what's to be given and such, but there will be several posts, each of which will have an item(s) you can win. I have at least 8 sets of gifties, so there will be at least 8 posts between now and Saturday at 10:00pm (US Mountain Standard Time)
I love to share great things I find while wandering around this great Land of Blog so there will be links to you to check out too! Hey, if you have a link you'd like mentioned during my little party, email it to me!
This post's giveaway:
