Scrappy Appliqué Flowers

(my sister's list, but I second it!!)
1. Mekhi (her son)
2. Parents
3. Jesus
* * *

This quilt was made by my maternal grandmother's mother, Frances Cordelia Cornia Gillette.

Samuel and Frances Gillette circa 1880's

I don't know if there is an official name for the block pattern, I've seen variations of the same era.

All the petals are hand appliquéd.
Something I found interesting for the time is the blue thread that she quilted around the petals.

I forgot to get a picture of the back of the quilt, darn!

No date is on the quilt.

I love it! Absolutely beautiful. I am so drawn to those antique colors. Have you thought about having it appraised?

That is interesting that blue thread was used. Perhaps that is all that was available. It is a beautiful quilt.

What a nice looking couple. Sometimes, in those old photographs, the people look like they have a very sour personality. Wonderful that you have the quilt.

wow, it looks to be in great condition. I love the sashing, it was such and "in" color then. By the way, she sure was a pretty lady, you can tell from her eyes she was kind.

Perhaps blue thread is what she had? We, today, get so caught up in having just the right stuff. Our ancentors used what they had.
