Bits and pieces of what I’ve been working on . . .

katys block

I got another paper pieced snowflake done for my Quilt Around the World Christmas swap.  Katy requested that all her blocks be made with red and white only.  I love the results!!  I’ve made 9 so far . . . I think!

I joined the Brown Bag Swap via Stash Manicure.  The fabrics pictured are the fabrics I’m sending to my partner, Michele.

We were to send FQ’s totaling 2 yds from our stash that no longer ‘speak’ to us.  Since I did a huge overhaul of my stash last year, I didn’t have many that I didn’t love so I had to throw in fabrics I still really like.  I’m excited to see what Michele makes with them!

Here are the fabrics Michele sent to me.

At work a couple of days ago a book came in with a project that is outside of my box that I think I’ll make with these FQ’s.

At Harriet’s we sell these darling kits to make two paper pieced blocks.
There are tons of samples made, but not all are made up so I took home a pack and stitched up these two leaves.

They finish anywhere from 3 1/2” square to 5” square with out borders.  One could enlarge the foundation, of course, to make a bigger block.
Next on my list is the birthday pack which has a present and a slice of cake and an animal pack that has a monkey and a giraffe.

I’ve almost got all the bindings done on the mini quilts I’m taking to Argentina!!  These were so fun to make – I’ll do a post on them later.

I'm in a Vintage Sheet Bee that has been organized by Deb in New Zealand.

A while back I participated in a vintage sheet swap so that's how I began collecting the sheets.

Denver has a bevy of thrift stores and I have found some really nice sheets!

For this swap, we send the fabrics we want others to make our (12 1/2" sq) block from.  I chose to make the following flying geese block.

So far I have received two sets of fabrics.  I love how the blocks turned out!!

Today I got the block Brenda made for me, I love how the two look together and can't wait till I have them all!!

Here's a little quilt (slightly smaller than a fat quarter) I made from left overs (2fer!!)

I AM, I AM, IT'S ME!

First off I won Rae Ann's (Cutie Pinwheel) 200 Post Giveaway!

I was so excited to receive some pinwheel blocks made by Ms. Pinwheel herself as well as the most darling pom-pom topped pen!

Look at the pinwheel block in the lower right corner, it is the back of the pieced block - Rae Ann clipped the seams where they meet for a flat laying seam!

In the winnings were 6 adorable, charming, sweet fat quarters, some chocolate that I've hidden from Urban and a pattern full of helpful and fun items for sewers!  All of this wrapped up in pretty red ric rack and a bright green button!

THEN, my mother-in-law surprised me with a charm pack of Make Life by Sweetwater!

I was especially excited because I already had one pack, and now I can make an even larger project with two!

So, have I been sewing or just playing??

Well, I got another snowflake block made for the Quilting Around The World Christmas Exchange!

I was fortunate to find a swap going on where I sent in two sets of ten 15" x 30" pieces of vintage sheets and in return I got all these!!

I think I'll try to collect some more pieces then make a light summer throw.  Won't it be charming??

Here is my latest snowflake for my Quilt Around the World - Christmas swap.

This round of blocks belong to Patty who made the star block with the red, green and black center, pictured below right.  I liked the traditional red and green with the touch of black.

I didn't have any such fabrics in my stash so I HAD to go to the local quilt shop to find some.  :) DARN!

The fabrics I used are from Moda, Majestic Yule.  It's quite elegant with the black and the gold metallic paisley.

Wanna see my other snowflakes?

Snowflakes!

1. A fun visit with my sister and nephew
2. Washing machine
3. Camera technology
* * *
Jane is hostessing a Quilt Around the World with a Christmas theme.

I made my starter block (upper left) a paper pieced snowflake.  I got such a great response to the design that I'm going to try to make everyone in the group a snowflake.

Some of the quilters request that a piece of fabric they send be used in the block we make for them.  Such was the case with the snowflake block I made with the Santa center.

I'm so glad I'm getting to participate!!

The snowflakes are particularly appropriate since we have been getting sleet and snow, here in Denver, for a couple of days now!

{FUN} Mail

I am so {pleased} at all the wonderful signature blocks I received today!
And take a look at the sweet strawberry pin Melissa included!

I'd say this swap was a definite success! {thanks} Melissa!!

Do you have lots of odds and ends stamps?  I did and it was driving me nuts!  So I put them all on my return envelope!  None of them even got cancelled - I guess it annoyed the postmen too!

Spooktacular Swap

Here are the wonderful blocks I received from Jane's Spooktacular Swap, aren't they great?!
And here are the 9 patch blocks. I think I'll do the 'split 9 patch' technique to them. I've got a couple of private swaps coming then I'll put them together. Not sure of layout yet!

2009 Fall Table Runner Swap

Diane has recieved her fall swap package from me so now I can show you what I sent!
The table topper is made from the Schnibbles pattern, Winter White. (The groups first Schnibbles project.)
To recap:
Diane sent me her choice of 9 fat quarters. She chose fqs from Sandy Gervais' line Gobble, Gobble by Moda. {Darling!!}
Diane wanted a table topper rather than a runner, which is generally more narrow.
I was to use what ever pattern I wanted to make Diane's topper.
Diane was able to chose whether she wanted a Halloween topper or a fall topper. She chose fall.
We could add fabric if we needed / wanted - which I did. I got the 'plain' cream from the same line, (Gobble, Gobble). I added the four outside corner gold fabrics from one of Nancy Halvorsen's fall lines. I also got the brown border fabric, backing and binding.
I could have scrappy pieced the back, but since the shop where I work has the line, I decided to get a whole piece for the backing.
The bonus is that I got to keep all the left overs! So, I made myself the very same topper!
I made Diane one of my owls in the same fabrics of her quilt, some fabric covered magnets, a harvest scented candle and a witchie hat embroidered on a wool covered magnet. The extras were all wrapped up in a fat quarter that I sewed up using my linen / gift bag tutorial.
I hope Diane enjoys her treats as much as I did while making them especially for her!
